For a long time I struggled with trying to find myself. I was so focussed on everyone else’s version of me instead of the only version that truly mattered. Constantly hiding the true person I was to please everyone else around me. In learning to be confidently lost I have been given a new outlook on life that has allowed me to constantly evolve within myself and explore new aspects of life. Accepting me for who I’am and not changing myself for anyone.
In my work I like to capture the essence of life. Different medians allow me to express my ideas and execute them in different interesting ways. My influences range in diversity from studying retro photography and photographers to contemporary aspects. Art to me doesn’t have to possess a simple definition, but the main purpose is to tell a story through the works I create. My hope is to leave lasting emotional impressions on the people who view my work and allowing room for their own interpretation of it.
My concentration explores the relationship between being confident and lost. It was inspired by an artist named Sabrina Claudio and her song, “Confidently Lost”. It embodies the idea of being alone but in a good sense; that we have to get through certain things in our lives, to get to a certain point, but ultimately those challenges and hardships are what shape us and make us stronger. My portfolio shows strong emotions of vulnerability in being alone but okay; because you don’t allow the constant challenges that life throws at you to faze you. My face is covered but still visible because in being confidently lost I no longer need anyone to find me because I’am no longer hiding myself. I’am alone but not lonely and in a comfortable position; confidently lost.
